Egypt reports 261 new coronavirus infections, 23 deaths in 24 hours

The Health Ministry said on Wednesday that 261 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country to 281,031.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 23 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,148.

As many as 323 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 210,805 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt aims at becoming a regional hub for COVID-19 vaccines’ manufacturing whether for the African continent or for any other countries per president Abdel Fattah al Sisi directives.

Presidential Adviser for Health and Prevention Affairs Mohamed Awad Tag El Din said in statements, that Covid-19 crises has proven the necessity of having technical capabilities for providing supplies, medicines and vaccines whenever needed.

“It is important to have medical companies with international specifications capable of providing the necessary vaccines, in order not to face any crises in providing vaccines for citizens” Tag El Din added.
