The Arab League secretariat called for giving great priority to the refugees’ rights within efforts to face the coronavirus consequences.
In a press release on the occasion of the World Refugee Day, which falls on June 20 every year, the AL said that more than 80 percent of the refugees around the world are living in low and medium-income countries that are suffering from poor health, water and sewage services.
It also noted that the Arab countries are hosting about a half of the total of refugees around the world, including 5.4 million Palestinian refugees.
The AL called for intensifying cooperation among all the parties concerned at national, regional and international levels to guarantee providing healthcare for refugees and displaced people as well as supporting them at economic and social levels.
It also reiterated its call for the international community to continue supporting UNRWA to shoulder its responsibility towards the Palestinian refugees.
