The Court of Cassation on Wednesday accepted the appeal by Al-Ahly\u2019s retired football player Mohamed Aboutrika and 1,537 others who were included on the state\u2019s \u2018Terrorists List\u2019, with the court ordering their retrial.<\/p>\n
Aboutrika has been added to the Egyptian authorities \u2018Terrorists\u2019 List\u2019 by a court, based on suspicions that he has provided financing for the now banned Muslim Brotherhood group.<\/p>\n
According to AFP, a government committee froze the assets of Aboutrika in 2015, two years after he retired.<\/p>\n
The government accused him of financing the Brotherhood, which was classified as a terrorist organization at the end of 2013.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to an anti-terror law imposed in 2015 by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, anyone on the country\u2019s terror list is subject to a travel ban, and their passport and assets are liable to be frozen,\u201d AFP reported.<\/p>\n
Aboutrika hinted in March that he may return to Egypt from Qatar soon. He posted \u201cSoon\u201d and a flag of Egypt on his Twitter account.<\/p>\n
Several other people on retrial from the Terror List include: ex-President Mohamed Morsi and his sons, businessman Safwan Thabet, writer Mostafa Saqr, a number of Muslim Brotherhood leaders like Supreme Guide Mohamed Badei and his sons, Mohamed Mahdy Akef and his sons, Khairat al-Shater and his sons, former MP Saad al-Katatny, Pakinam al-Sharqawy.<\/p>\n
