CAIRO \u2013 11 August 2022: Youth aged 18-29 constitutes 40.2 percent of the workforce in Egypt with men representing 64.1 percent of these youth, Egypt\u2019s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said, citing data of 2022.<\/p>\n
CAPMAS marks the International Youth Day celebrated by the United Nations on 12 August based on recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth in Lisbon, Portugal in 1998.<\/p>\n
The International Youth Day of this year is centered around \u201cIntergenerational Solidarity: creating a world for all ages\u201d.<\/p>\n
According to the data cited by CAPMAS, unemployment rate among youth has reached 15.4 percent.<\/p>\n
Marriages among male youth aged 18-29 reached 59 percent of the marriages that took place in 2021, while marriages among female youth reached 82.4 percent, said the agency.<\/p>\n
On the other side, divorces among male and female youth reached 17.8 percent and 37.8 percent from the total divorces in 2021 respectively, according to the data.<\/p>\n
Moreover, death rate among young people in the age group (15-29 years) was 0.8 per thousand young people (1.0 per thousand males, 0.6 per thousand females), added the agency.<\/p>\n
Over the past years, Egypt has announced steps to empower youth, women, and other marginalized groups, including by constructing new mega development projects nationwide, which secure thousands of job opportunities.<\/p>\n
Youth and women also benefit from the state\u2019s social protection programs and the housing units the government constructs in new cities especially for youth who are going to get married.<\/p>\n
The state has also shown keenness to listen to youth\u2019s point of views regarding national priorities in many occasions, including by holding the annual event of the National Youth Conference.<\/p>\n
This is in addition to the World Youth Conference (WYF), which Egypt is used to holding every year to ensure that the voice of the world\u2019s youth is heard and influences decision making at various levels.<\/p>\n
Egyptian youth aged 18-29 represent more than 21 percent of the population, according to earlier data. Also, around 80 percent of the population in Egypt and under 40 years of age.<\/p>\n
