CAIRO – 12 March 2022: The State has been prompt to place the climate change issue on the top of its priorities within the upcoming period, said Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi.<\/p>\n
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has assigned the government to adopt the necessary mechanisms and strategies in order to mitigate the impact of climate change, added the minister in a recorded speech he delivered Thursday before the 12th Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Development Forum.<\/p>\n
Climate change is now considered as one of the greatest challenges not only at the national level but also at the global one, added the minister.<\/p>\n
He also said that the government has established the national council of climate change, which is held under the chairmanship of the prime minister.<\/p>\n
Efforts are under way to update the national climate change strategy, which will be focused on fulfilling the aspired goals of sustainable development, he went on to say.<\/p>\n
The Local Development Ministry has started since fiscal year 2018-2019 to implement an ambitious program, as per directives of President Sisi, to implement an advanced system of municipal solid waste management, as the improper disposal of solid waste pollutes air and water, he noted.<\/p>\n
The forum, which will run until March 13, is held under the theme of \u201cinstitutional development and building capabilities \u2026 a main catalyst for applying sustainability standards\u201d with an aim to support ongoing national efforts to secure decent life for Egyptian citizens nationwide in addition to engaging in effective partnerships that provide all needed funds to expedite strengthening the sustainable development goals, according to the website of the CSR. <\/p>\n
