CAIRO – 31 January 2022: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to speed up the completion of Egypt’s modern collective transportation system to facilitate citizens’ safe and fast movement, within the mega development projects nationwide, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said.<\/p>\n
Madbouli made the remarks on Saturday during an inspection tour of some projects undertaken by the Transport Ministry, including the Salam City\/10th of Ramadan City electric train line.<\/p>\n
He was accompanied by Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir, Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) Essam Wally, and representatives of the companies involved in the project.<\/p>\n
During his tour, Madbouli followed up the pilot operation of the light rail transit (LRT) system which started on January 12.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Wazir said the project, being implemented in pursuance of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to expand the country’s eco-friendly clean transport network, is scheduled to be opened in March.<\/p>\n
Madbouli also checked the finishing works in the project’s 1st phase, which extends from Adly Mansour transition station until the Art & Culture City station in the new capital, in preparation of inaugurating the project on schedule.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, representatives of China Railway Group and Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) briefed the premier on the readiness of electro-mechanic, communication, and signaling systems.<\/p>\n
Madbouli also followed up the ongoing tests on 12 recently procured trains and a diesel-powered locomotive to be used for workshop activities. Another 10 trains will be shipped by the Chinese CREC-AVIC INTL Consortium at a total cost of $227 million.<\/p>\n
He also followed the progress made in the project’s 2nd phase, which covers four stations extending over 18.5 km, starting from the new capital to the central transition station linked to the high-speed train line in El Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea coast.<\/p>\n
