CAIRO – 27 November 2021: The National Committee to Eradicate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), co-chaired by the National Council for Women (NCW) and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), launched a door-knocking campaign in ten governorates covered by the Decent Life presidential initiative.<\/p>\n
The campaign was launched in Gharbia, Damietta, Kafr el Sheikh, Alexandria, Qalyubia, Menoufia, Giza, Behira, Ismailia and the New Valley.<\/p>\n
The three-day campaign is aimed at raising awareness about the FGM elimination issue in a way that creates community\u2019s rejection for such outdated practices, said Isis Mahmoud, the director-general of the NCW\u2019s department of planning programs and awareness campaigns.<\/p>\n
It also aims to inform people about the health and mental risks posed by this crime, she added.<\/p>\n
This campaign comes in conjunction with the Global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence which focuses on raising awareness about violence against women, she said. <\/p>\n
