CAIRO \u2013 18 November 2021: Prince of Wales Charles and Duchess of Cornwall Camilla arrived in Cairo Thursday after concluding their visit to Jordan as they are holding a four-day tour in both countries.<\/p>\n
The UK royalties’ program includes meeting President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and First Lady Intissar Amer al-Sisi as that is the first official visit to Egypt by Prince Charles in 15 years.<\/p>\n
In Jordan, they met King Abdullah II and Queen Rania , and visited Elijah’s Hill and a site on the banks of Jordan River where it is believed Jesus got baptized.<\/p>\n
UK embassy in Egypt had announced in October that Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall would visit Egypt on November 18-19.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir Royal Highness\u2019s visit to Egypt will highlight the country\u2019s close relationship with the UK, and will provide an opportunity to demonstrate Egypt\u2019s growing commitment to protecting the environment,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
The embassy added that the Prince of Wales\u2019 visit comes immediately after the UK\u2019s hosting COP26 and the nomination of Egypt to host the COP27 Presidency in 2022. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Prince has a deep and longstanding interest in these issues, and will be taking the opportunity to discuss how we best work together to combat climate change,\u201d the embassy said, noting that the \u201cvisit will also highlight cultural heritage preservation and religious tolerance across Egyptian society.\u201d<\/p>\n
President Sisi and Egypt\u2019s First Lady Entissar Amer will officially welcomes The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall at Al-Ittihadiya Palace. <\/p>\n
Then, their Royal Highnesses will meet with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed El Tayeb \u201cfor discussions and dialogue on religious harmony and the role of faith in preserving the environment,\u201d the embassy said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will serve to further strengthen religious ties between the UK and Egypt,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
Also, during their two-day visit, his \u201cRoyal Highness will meet with craftspeople and conservationists, celebrating traditional crafts and UK support for preserving cultural heritage, as well as the skills of artisans.\u201d<\/p>\n
Support his Sustainable Markets Initiative that brings together young entrepreneurs with major companies from the private sector, The Prince of Wales will discuss the opportunities for growing green, innovative business in Egypt.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Duchess will focus on supporting women\u2019s empowerment, through learning more about the stories of women leaders in Egypt and their efforts to promote conservation. She will also learn more about how female heads of households are coming up with innovative ways of supporting themselves and their families,\u201d the embassy continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir Royal Highnesses will together attend a UK-Egypt reception to celebrate the bond between the two countries, to be held overlooking the Pyramids at the magnificent Giza Plateau. On the final day of the Tour, Their Royal Highnesses will visit the ancient city of Alexandria,\u201d the embassy added.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis program will allow their Royal Highnesses the opportunity to celebrate Egypt\u2019s ancient culture and spiritual significance, while also looking ahead to a modern Egypt, embracing a greener future,\u201d the embassy said.<\/p>\n
The royals\u2019 visit to Egypt is the first one in 15 years as they had visited Egypt in March 2006. They visited Al-Azhar Mosque in the Old Cairo, Al-Azhar Park, The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Commonwealth cemetery in El Alamein, the Temple of the Oracle in Siwa oasis, and the Brooke Animal Hospital in Cairo.<\/p>\n
