The Egyptian Armed Forces killed 40 militants and arrested another five in North Sinai during \u2018Martyr Right\u2019 army operations, an armed forces official spokesperson said in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the Second Field Army engaged in military a week-long sweep, as part of the fourth stage of the \u2018Martyr Right\u2019 operation.<\/p>\n
Militants\u2019 stationing points were sieged in North Sinai\u2019s cities of al-Arish, Rafah and Sheikh Zewaid.<\/p>\n
The seven-day military operation led to the death of 40 militants believed to be members of the IS-affiliated group \u2018Sinai Province\u2019. In addition, 20 vehicles and 52 stationing points used by militants were destroyed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe army operations in North Sinai led to the destruction of 100 \u2018IED\u2019 \u2018Improvised Explosive Devices\u2019 and eight small units used to fabricate such \u2018IED\u2019S, \u201d the army\u2019s statement read.<\/p>\n
Since 2013, the Egyptian Armed forces and police have engaged in violent military confrontations in North Sinai with the \u2018Sinai Province\u2019 group, previously known as \u2018Ansar Byat El-Maqdus\u2019 before declaring affiliation with IS in 2014.<\/p>\n
The ideology of the \u2018Sinai Province\u2019 group is based on considering the army and police forces as \u2018apostates\u2019 who should be killed to pave the way for the establishment of a caliphate state in Egypt.<\/p>\n
To eliminate these militants, the Egyptian army launched intensive military sweeping operations under the \u2018Martyr Right\u2019 military campaign.<\/p>\n
