Egypt is keen on expanding its electrical linkage projects with many countries as part of a strategy to become a global energy hub. Below are statements made by Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker in a Monday interview.<\/p>\n
1 \u2013 Power linkage with Saudi Arabia and Libya are at the forefront of such projects with plans to increase the capacity of the 240 MW Egyptian-Libyan power grid to 2,000-3,000 MW.<\/p>\n
2 \u2013 In the meantime, Egypt has embarked on increasing the Egyptian-Libyan power grid capacity to 500 MW to deliver electrical power to Tripoli in the best quality and service.<\/p>\n
3 \u2013 Egypt can establish power linkage lines with African, European and Gulf countries of up to 15,000 MW with 46,000 MW available on the grid on daily basis.<\/p>\n
4 \u2013 Egypt is close to reaching the global reserve rate at 25% of the total generated energy. Today, Egypt has a daily reserve of 15,000 MW, allowing it to expand electrical interconnection with many countries to take advantage of the ever-increasing power reserves.<\/p>\n
5 \u2013 An international consultant has been hired to study the financial and technical aspects of the power linkage project between Egypt and Cyprus at a capacity of 2,000-3,000 MW.<\/p>\n
6 \u2013 The project with Cyprus would allow power linkage with all of Europe, turning Egypt into a main energy hub globally. The prospect is given great attention by the two countries and is expected to be witness leaps to materialize in a relatively short time.<\/p>\n
7 \u2013 Egypt also eyes power linkages southwards to take advantage of the huge potential of hydropower capacities in Africa, and such projects will contain the massive energy that would be generated. <\/p>\n
