The National Authority for Tunnels announced Thursday that works to turn Alexandria’s Abou Qir rail line into an underground metro line extending over 21 kilometers will begin early in 2022. <\/p>\n
The project also consists of rehabilitating the railroads, infrastructure, and the signaling and control systems. It will be implemented by the company\/consortium that will win the tender invited by the authority. The cost is \u20ac1.5 billion and will be financed through a soft loan from an international financing entity.<\/p>\n
The metro line will include 20 stations as five will be added to 15 existing ones. The new stations are Bab Sharq, Sporting, Miami, Kafr Abdo, and Mohamed Naguib. It is noted that Raml Station will be cancelled, while the other 15 will be turned into underground stations.<\/p>\n
Those are Abou Qir, Toson, Maamoura, Al Eslah, Al Mandara, Al Montaza, Al Asafra, Sidi Bishr, Victoria, Gabrielle, Al Souq, Al Zahereya, Sidi Gaber, Al Hadra, and Misr Station.<\/p>\n
The line will be affiliated to the National Authority for Tunnels instead of the Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA).<\/p>\n
