In two phone calls with Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell on Wednesday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry called for the necessity to resume peace efforts for establishing an independent Palestinian state on the border of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.<\/p>\n
\u201cMinister Shoukry addressed the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian territories as a result of the confrontations in Jerusalem and with the Gaza Strip. Minister Shoukry proposed needed measures and contacts to guarantee to halt the confrontation and attacks against civilians and preserve the rights of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,\u201d said the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.<\/p>\n
The Egyptian Minister called for putting an end to the conflict via a just and viable solution that would stabilize the situation in the Palestinian territories and contribute to regional stability.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the coming hours, the Foreign Minister will intensify contacts with his counterparts in the concerned and influential countries in the Middle East region, in order to put an end to the current crisis and seek to move towards the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which is considered a central conflict that constitutes one of the main factors of instability in the region,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
In a way to deescalate the clashes between the Palestinians and the Israeli, Shoukry conducted on Wednesday with his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi.<\/p>\n
Shoukry stressed the need to cease the Israeli attacks on the Palestinian territories, and the importance of working to spare the peoples of the region further escalation and resorting to military means, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement.<\/p>\n
The Egyptian Minister affirmed Egypt’s keenness on the region\u2019s stability based on settling issues by diplomatic means via negotiations, and that the recent developments confirm the need to resume Palestinian-Israeli peace efforts as soon as possible and with no delay.<\/p>\n
\u201cThree days of Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip left 43 Palestinians dead, including 13 children and three women, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in an update on the casualties,\u201d MENA reported.<\/p>\n
The Israeli aggression also resulted in the injury of 442 others, said the Egyptian embassy in Cairo in a statement.<\/p>\n
