The Prisons Authority executed Monday nine convicts in “Kerdasa Massacre” lawsuit whereas 20 were sentenced to death in the retrial that consisted of 156 convicts.<\/p>\n
The executed were held in Wadi Al Natroun Prison, and their families were informed to receive the bodies from the morgue.<\/p>\n
The incident dates back to 2013 in the aftermath of dismantling the sit-ins of Rabaa and Nahda in Cairo and Giza whereas supporters of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood were protesting the ouster of late President Mohamed Morsi, a leader at the group himself, after one year in rule.<\/p>\n
The convicts broke into Kerdasa Police Department, and killed the officers and policemen disfiguring their bodies afterwards.<\/p>\n
The sentences handed to the convicts in the retrial in 2017 include life sentences to 80, death sentences to 20, 15 years in prison to 34, 10 years in prison to a minor, and the clearance of 21.<\/p>\n
The execution took place a few days after the airing of an episode of El Ekhteyar 2 (The Choice) series showing the massacre. The episode included real footage shot by the media at the time reviving sympathy with the victims, and fury against the culprits.<\/p>\n
