Egypt\u2019s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi congratulated Al Ahly SC team for clinching the third place at the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar, reiterating support to the sports and the Egyptian youth.<\/p>\n
Al Ahly defeated Brazilian giants, Palmeiras, 3-2 on penalties in the FIFA Club World Cup third-place playoff to win the bronze medal for the second time in the club\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
\u201c[I extend] my sincere congratulations to the Al Ahly SC team for winning the third place at the Club World Cup and for the honorable performance,\u201d the president said in a tweet.<\/p>\n
\u201cI also affirm that the state would spare no effort in supporting and sponsoring sports and Egyptian youth in all team and individual sports.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI wish continued progress and success for the Egyptian sports at all levels,\u201d Sisi added.<\/p>\n
Al Ahly SC team arrived in Cairo on Friday on board special EgyptAir flight, after they won the historic bronze medal at the championship. The Red Devils were received by the EgyptAir flight crew in Qatar with flowers and chocolate.<\/p>\n
The match\u2019s regular time ended in a goalless draw and the game went to penalties.<\/p>\n
Al Ahly goalkeeper stepped up and put on a heroic performance, having saved three penalty shots while Badr Benoun, Mohamed Hany and Junior Ajayi scored to secure the victory for the Red Devils.<\/p>\n
El Shenawy claimed Man of the Match award after his sensational performance in the match.<\/p>\n
Al Ahly became the first Arab and African club to reach the podium of the prestigious competition on two different occasions, having won the bronze medal in 2006 in Japan.<\/p>\n
Al Ahly players stayed at Education City stadium as they followed the final between Germany\u2019s Bayern Munich and Tigres of Mexico, which ended with a 1-0 win for the Bavarian giants.<\/p>\n
Following the final, Al Ahly players received the bronze medals by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.<\/p>\n
