Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem al-Gazar stated Tuesday that the value of housing and infrastructure projects accomplished in Upper Egypt since 2014 is LE63 billion.<\/p>\n
The breakdown is LE13.2 billion for building 130,892 residential units; LE389 million for building 36,869 alternative fully-furnished housing units granted to former slum dwellers; LE11.3 billion for constructing 931 roads; LE34.5 billion for establishing 271 water supply and wastewater networks and renovating 1,654 existing ones as well as treatment plants; and, LE3.6 billion for introducing 412 service buildings.<\/p>\n
The projects were carried out in existing cities, eight new cities, and six fourth-generation cities. <\/p>\n
In a different context, Petroleum Minister Tareq Mulla announced on December 31 a high-octane benzine complex project has entered pilot stage in line with the set plans and timetable.<\/p>\n
He hailed the project as being accomplished in record time in view of the coronavirus challenges, commending the painstaking efforts exerted by ENPPI, Petrojet and Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC).<\/p>\n
He noted that the complex worth $450 million of investment secures about 800,000 tons of fuel annually, adding that this amount was previously imported to cater for local market needs.<\/p>\n
The minister added that a new diesel oil complex has been also established by the Assiut National Oil Processing Co. (ANOPEC).<\/p>\n
The complex at $2.9 billion produces about 2.8 million tons of diesel oil, 400,000 tons of naphtha which is used for producing high-octane fuel, 100,000 tons of butane gas, 300,000 tons of coal and 66,000 tons of sulfur.<\/p>\n
