Commenting on the current regional efforts to reach reconciliation between Arab countries (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the AUE, and Bahrain) with Qatar, Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi said that current efforts and Kuwaiti mediation haven\u2019t resulted in a final form regarding this file.<\/p>\n
In a phone call to \u201cOn My Responsibility\u201d talk show on Sada Al-Balad T.V. on Wednesday, Radi added that Egypt appreciates the mediation efforts that have been exerted by Kuwait, noting that the Arab countries had previously asked Qatar certain demands in return for ending their boycott with this Gulf State.<\/p>\n
\u201cEgypt’s policy is based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs, and the four countries have many demands that have been announced,\u201d he said, adding \u201cif Qatar responded to those demands with a sincere desire and strong political will, there will be something else.\u201d<\/p>\n
Radi’s comments in light of the current visist of Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Egypt on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
On June 5, 2020, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain decided to cut ties with the oil-rich state of Qatar over accusations of funding terrorism and harboring extremists and wanted-terrorists; charges which Qatar has denied.<\/p>\n
The Arab quartet issued 13 demands to Doha \u2013 then shortened to six principles \u2013 which included turning down the provocative voice of its news channel, Al-Jazeera, curbing relations with Iran, and not intervening in the domestic issues of Arab nations.<\/p>\n
Despite all the diplomatic efforts to end the crisis, a solution has not been reached yet and the crisis is still ongoing without a quick fix to the spat. The Gulf states need a clear signal that Qatar is willing to reexamine its position regarding extremism and terrorism.<\/p>\n
