Egypt has extended its condolences to Sudan over the death of military troops and the injury of others, in a cross-border attack on Tuesday in the al-Qadarif province, affirming Sudan\u2019s \u201cright to practice its sovereignty on its own territory\u201d.<\/p>\n
Sudan\u2019s armed forces accuse \u201cEthiopian forces and militias\u201d of carrying out the attack, after ambushing its forces during a security patrol of the border region.<\/p>\n
The incident took place when the Sudanese forces were returning from a sweep of the Abu Tyour area, along the border with Ethiopia.<\/p>\n
\u201cEgypt affirms its full solidarity with brotherly Sudan and its right to preserve its security and practice its sovereignty on its own territory,\u201d a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Thursday read.<\/p>\n
Egypt also affirms its \u201ccondemnation of these unjustifiable aggressions\u201d and \u201cis following up, with further concerns, the dangerous developments in the field and their impact on the security situation in the region,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
Egypt \u201cstresses the need to take all possible measures to prevent such events against the brotherly Sudan from happening again in the future,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
Accusing Ethiopia, the Sudanese army said: \u201cduring the return of our forces from combing the area around Jabal Abutiour inside our territory, they were ambushed by Ethiopian forces and militias inside Sudanese territory, as a result of which lives and equipment were lost.\u201d<\/p>\n
