Sudanese Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources Bushra Hamid called for the assistance of the neighboring countries and the international community to face the repercussions of the torrential rains and floods that hit the country.<\/p>\n
\u201c[The rate of] Floods exceeded our expectations,\u201d he said in a phone call with \u201c90 Minutes\u201d talk show on the Egyptian Mehwar T.V. channel on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Hamid praised Egypt\u2019s urgent response to send aid to the Sudanese people.<\/p>\n
Torrential rains and floods hit Sudan, killing more than 99 people and displacing hundreds. This is in addition to destroying many houses and buildings. Sudan\u2019s Security and Defense Council declared a national state of emergency for three months, designating Sudan as a natural disaster zone.<\/p>\n
President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi expressed his full solidarity with the government and people of Sudan. \u201cI express my sincere solidarity with the brotherly Sudanese government and people amid the heavy rains and flash floods that have ravaged their country, causing devastation and tragic loss of life,\u201d Sisi tweeted on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Egyptian Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding the issue in light of the solid fraternal ties binding the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples, and ”the unity of path and destiny” between the two countries.<\/p>\n
Cairo also extended the sincerest condolences to Khartoum over the flood victims, asserting full readiness to coordinate with the Sudanese people regarding the humanitarian relief efforts required to face the repercussions of these floods, according to the ministry.<\/p>\n
The ministry’s statement further noted that Egypt is confident that Sudan’s government and people will overcome this crisis.<\/p>\n
