Judge Abdullah Omar was sworn in as new head of Egypt\u2019s Court of Cassation on Wednesday, in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the Presidency said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Also, a first-class Order of the Republic was bestowed on former head of the court Abdullah Amin by the president.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe president has affirmed his sincere appreciation for the efforts exerted by the former head of the Court of Cassation,\u201d Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said, adding that Sisi \u201chailed the noble history of the honorable Egyptian judiciary\u201d.<\/p>\n
The duties of the Egyptian Court of Cassation, according to its official website, include:<\/p>\n
1 – Deciding on appeals against rulings issued by the courts of appeal in cases whose value exceeds LE 100,000 – Article 248 of the Civil and Commercial Procedures Law<\/p>\n
2- Adjudication of the appeal against the final judgment issued in contradiction to a previous ruling – Article 249 of the Civil and Commercial Procedures Law.<\/p>\n
3- Adjudication of the Attorney General\u2019s appeal against final judgments – Article No. 250 of the Civil and Commercial Procedures Law.<\/p>\n
4- Adjudication of the appeal against final rulings in the articles of felony and misdemeanor – Articles 30 and 35 of Law No. 57 of 1959 regarding cases and procedures of appeal.<\/p>\n
