Court of Cassation ruled Tuesday to uphold a life sentence against Mohamed Badie, the supreme guide of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood organization and others in the Adwa Case after all the submitted appeals were rejected. <\/p>\n
In September 23, 2018, Minya Criminal Court sentenced Badie and 87 others to life in the case known as \u201cAdwa Incidents.\u201d Another 81 defendants were handed 15 years in prison, 49 defendants were given a sentence of 7 years of intensified prison, 16 defendants were sentenced to 10 years in prison, 22 defendants were given 3 years in prison, one defendant was sentenced to 15 years in prison, another defendant was given 3 years and 22 others were sentenced to 2 years with labor. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a total of 463 defendants were acquitted in the case. <\/p>\n
The case dates back to August 14, 2013, when a number of people gathered and stormed Adwa Police station in Upper Egypt\u2019s governorate of Minya, carrying fire and bladed weapons, and deliberately killing two police personnel. They also destroyed the police station, police vehicles and official documents, setting them in fire.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the defendants enabled 31 detainees to escape, and stole all weapons at the police station. <\/p>\n
The investigations revealed that 683 persons affiliated with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group were involved in these violent incidents.<\/p>\n
