The reasoning of the verdict issued in the case known as “Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis” in which terrorist Hisham Ashmawy was sentenced to death in March 2020, is released.<\/p>\n
Defendants in Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis case were sentenced to death, life imprisonment and intensified imprisonment over 54 crimes they committed, including the attempted assassination of former Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim and the assassination of police officers and explosions at security facilities.<\/p>\n
Among the charges drawn against the defendants in this case is storming and stealing sums of money from the Azab Post Office in Matareya, where an eyewitness\u2019s testimonies were among the evidence that proved the conviction of the defendants.<\/p>\n
Mohamed A. is an employee at the Azab Post Office in Matareya, Giza, and witnessed the armed attack at the post office, and made remarks about the accident, including:<\/p>\n
1- He was at the post office, when he and his colleagues saw two masked men carrying two automatic weapons; they broke into the office and fired bullets inside, while others were firing bullets outside the office.<\/p>\n
2- The armed men managed to seize a sum of L.E. 240, 236 and destroyed the office\u2019s components before they fled away.<\/p>\n
The case includes around 194 defendants, atop of them is the terrorist Hisham Ashmawy, who was sentenced to death along with 36 others in the same case. The other 157 defendants were sentenced to life and to long prison terms.<\/p>\n
The Public Prosecution accused the defendants of committing crimes of founding, assuming leadership and joining a terrorist group, aimed at disrupting the provisions of the constitution and laws; preventing state institutions from exercising their duties; violating the rights and freedoms of citizens; harming national unity and social peace; communicating with a foreign organization represented in Hamas, the military wing of the organization Brotherhood; sabotaging state facilities; premeditated murder, and attempting to acquire firearms and ammunition.<\/p>\n
