Minister of Transportation Kamel al-Wazir revealed on Tuesday that the ministry plans to establish a company that manages rail freight transport.<\/p>\n
The company will be independent administratively and financially from the Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) but will be affiliated to the Ministry of Transportation. However, studies are underway to allow the private sector to hold stakes in the company.<\/p>\n
At the beginning, the company will manage freight transport via both railways and trucks. Later, it will expand to operate in the marine and inland transportation sectors.<\/p>\n
The plan is turning the freight transport sector at ERA into an independent company. The ownership and management systems to be adopted are still being examined.<\/p>\n
Currently, the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Public Enterprise are coordinating to finalize the foundation measures of the company.<\/p>\n
