The New Valley governorate has won Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award in the Literacy Challenge Forum which was held in the UAE under the theme “Challenges and Solutions.”<\/p>\n
This comes as part of the Local Development Ministry’s keenness to present the successful municipal experiments at the regional and international levels, after the ministry’s winning of the silver award from the African Association for Public Administration for a project on improving public services.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Thursday, Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi said that New Valley Governor Mohamed el Zamallout received the award in the “Governments category” in recognition of the governorate’s efforts over the past period.<\/p>\n
The minister shed light on the governorates’ effort to develop the education opportunities and encourage students to gain more knowledge.<\/p>\n
A proposal on holding a conference to highlight the successful experiments and models of the governorates will be discussed and needed support will be offered to the distinguished governorates, he said.<\/p>\n
The Literacy Challenge Forum brings together literacy experts and leaders from around the world to exchange expertise, enhance cooperation and work together to eliminate illiteracy in the Arab world.<\/p>\n
Phosphorous fertilizers complex<\/p>\n
This comes two weeks after the governor of the southwestern governorate told Egypt Today that New Valley is fully prepared for the establishment of its largest complex for the production of phosphorus fertilizers next April, with a total investment of LE 15 billion ($956.1 million).<\/p>\n
The complex aims to achieve an annual production of 500,000 tons of phosphoric acid, New Valley Governor Mohamed Al-Zamlout said. The project will be established in cooperation between the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.<\/p>\n
The complex, which will be established in the 440-square-kilometer governorate is set to become the fourth worldwide to provide such production of phosphoric acid.<\/p>\n
The project will provide job opportunities for people of the New Valley, the governor said, adding that graduates in the governorate have been trained to work in the new complex.<\/p>\n
