Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri confirmed that the process of transferring antiquities from the Karnak Temple to Cairo to decorate Tahrir Square will be done under high security measures.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe transfer is 100 percent secure. Artifacts are subject to protection and all precautions are taken,” commented Waziri in a phone call to \u201cEl-Hayat el-Yom\u201d program aired on El-Hayat channel.<\/p>\n
Waziri further clarified that all the necessary precautions are followed to prevent tampering with the statues once they are placed in their new location, as it has been known in the past that some people like to carve their names on the artifacts.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Antiquities currently focuses on restoring and documenting monuments. This comes within the framework of the ministry\u2019s comprehensive plan to restore and study the statues of Karnak temples, after the approval of the Egyptian Permanent Committee for Antiquities.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has completed more than 90 percent of the Kebbash Road (Avenue of Sphinxes) restoration and revitalization project. The Avenue of Sphinxes is set to re-open for visitors in the year 2020.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly inspected on Dec. 31 the work of developing Tahrir Square, accompanied by the ministers of antiquities and tourism, local development, housing, utilities and urban communities, and the governor of Cairo.<\/p>\n
During the tour, the prime minister followed up the development works handled by the Arab Contractors Company.<\/p>\n
