The experimental operation of Terminal 2 at Sharm el-Sheikh Airport will kick off Thursday after the first phase of the development and modernization works finalized.<\/p>\n
The inauguration of the renovation works is part of the Civil Aviation Ministry\u2019s plan to accommodate the increasing number of passengers, especially during this winter season, with the tourists\u2019 flow to the South Sinai resort expected to rise.<\/p>\n
The ministry has concluded the development works at the airport, which includes expanding the Terminal 2 to accommodate 9 million passengers per year, instead of 7 million only. As part of the strategy, the ministry plans to increase the capacity to accommodate 20 million passengers annually, and increase the number of gates from eight to 12, in addition to finalizing all development works surrounding Terminal 2, which are worth L.E. 800 million.<\/p>\n
The development works further tackle the security system inside and outside the airport, including the installation of surveillance cameras, passport check counters, in a bid to smoothen the flow of accessing the airport.<\/p>\n
Terminal 2 Project at Sharm el-Sheikh Airport is one of the main projects by the ministry to revamp Egyptian airports, raise its efficiency, and increase the capacity, and equipping the facility with the latest international technological systems and providing passengers with the best services. This strategy goes the line with the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030 to develop the air transport\u2019s industry system.<\/p>\n
Egypt has significantly invested in safety and security measures including CCTV, airport security, GPS on tour buses and continually reviews and enhances these security steps.
\nOn October 22, the British government removed its advisory against flying to Egypt\u2019s Sharm el-Sheikh resort.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis announcement follows our aviation security experts\u2019 close cooperation with their Egyptian counterparts. We will work closely with airlines who wish to resume flights,\u201d British Ambassador to Egypt Geoffrey Adams said in the statement.<\/p>\n
First British flight to Sharm el-Sheikh is expected to run in December.<\/p>\n
