The Education Committee of the parliament discusses Sunday the January 2019 agreement to reestablish the French University in Egypt (UFE), per which visiting scholars will work in the non-profit educational institution.<\/p>\n
The agreement between the Egyptian and French governments entails that the university opens colleges for architecture, urban planning, energy, mechanics, IT, telecommunication, applied languages, management, mathematics and humanities.
\nThe university, to be built in Shorouk City, northeast of Cairo, will also include research, technology, postgraduate and continuing education departments.<\/p>\n
The UFE is planned to accommodate up to 3,000 students in its first phase, a number that will increase to 7,000 by the second phase.<\/p>\n
Per the agreement, Egypt will allocate 30 feddans for the university premises, build it, fund PhD scholarships for Egyptian students who will study in France, and facilitate the entry and residency of French students, lecturers and staff.<\/p>\n
For its part, Paris will send at least 72 French visiting professors a year to conduct teaching and research missions, as well as train Egyptian doctoral students in French labs without registration or research fees.<\/p>\n
The UFE is a non-profit university that aims to provide distinguished education in Arabic, French and English to prepare young Egyptian for local and global markets, develop and spread scientific research, develop relations with the international economic and industrial community, enhance cooperation with other countries, especially in Africa and the Arab world, according to the agreement.<\/p>\n
