Former Assistant Foreign Minister Mohamed Hegazi underlined on Sunday the importance of the Egyptian-Cypriot-Greek summit to be hosted by Cairo on Tuesday October 8.<\/p>\n
Hegazi said that such meetings are an opportunity to boost cooperation in the domains of development, energy and economy.<\/p>\n
President Abdel Fatah El Sisi, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will call for discarding terrorism, extremism and violence and probe means of enhancing such rapprochement and communication to achieve regional security and stability and better serve their peoples’ interests.<\/p>\n
He also said that the three leaders are keen on holding this summit regularly to further discuss security and military cooperation and preserve the stability of the Mediterranean region.<\/p>\n
This tripartite cooperation is very important at this time given the tremendous threats besetting the region, he said, adding that such summits give a chance to exchange viewpoints towards many issues, including the Palestinian cause and conflicts in Syria and Libya.<\/p>\n
These summits are also a tool to carry out joint development projects, he added.<\/p>\n
In May 2018, an Egyptian-Greek-Cypriot summit was held in autumn in Athens, the Egyptian presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi said in a statement to MBC satellite channel.<\/p>\n
Radi added that the trilateral summit addressed means of enhancing bilateral cooperation in various domains, especially in the tourism and energy domains.<\/p>\n
Sisi convened with his Greek and Cypriot counterparts; Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Nikos Anastasidis respectively, during the “Revival of Hellenism” week in Alexandria.<\/p>\n
The talks tackled promoting trilateral cooperation in the natural gas domain, he said, noting that this cooperation will expand to include the European Union, thus qualifying Egypt to become a regional energy hub.<\/p>\n
