The visionary and Legendary director, screenwriter, actor and animator, Terry Gilliam will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 41st edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) which is scheduled to take place from November 20-29 .<\/p>\n
Gilliam is set to accept the accolade during the opening ceremony of the Festival at The Cairo Opera House.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great honour to be recognised with this award by the Cairo International Film Festival, I am very excited to be visiting Egypt in November to meet with audiences and filmmakers to celebrate storytelling\u201d Terry Gilliam said.<\/p>\n
This prestigious award from CIFF came in recognition of Gilliam outstanding career, which spanned four decades.<\/p>\n
Gilliam great contributions to the film industry made him one of the greatest filmmakers of our time.<\/p>\n
During the opening ceremony the audience will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear the Oscar nominated and BAFTA fellowship director\u2019s amazing life story with an in-conversation event at the Cairo Opera House.<\/p>\n
This rare event provides an unmissable opportunity for audiences to gain an insight into Gilliam\u2019s life, career and achievements, with an exclusive question and answer session for audience members. The Festival will also host special screenings of \u2018\u2019Brazil\u2019\u2019 and \u2018\u2019The Man Who Killed Don Quixote\u2019\u2019.

Terry Gilliam first gained recognition when he made his mark on pop culture as a founding member of the Monty Python comedy troupe and with his animations for Monty Python\u2019s Flying Circus, which first aired on television in the U.K. in 1969.<\/p>\n
His unique flair and remarkable imagination in storytelling soon propelled him into the director\u2019s chair for \u2018\u2019Monty Python\u2019\u2019 and the \u2018\u2019Holy Grail\u2019\u2019 (1975) and segments of Monty Python\u2019s \u2018\u2019The Meaning of Life\u2019\u2019 (1983) alongside Terry Jones.<\/p>\n
Gilliam\u2019s first outing as a solo director was the captivating and dazzling \u2018\u2019Jabberwocky\u2019\u2019 (1977) which he also co-wrote.<\/p>\n
He followed on with the hugely successful \u2018\u2019Time Bandits\u2019\u2019 (1981), an intoxicating time travel fantasy starring John Cleese and Sean Connery.<\/p>\n
In 1985 directed the remarkable sci-fi picture \u2018\u2019Brazil\u2019\u2019 (1985), wowing critics who hailed it a visual masterpiece and scored Gilliam an Oscar nomination.<\/p>\n
Gilliam\u2019s trademark imagination was on full display in his flamboyant fantasy \u2018\u2019The Adventures of Baron Munchausen\u2019\u2019 (1989). In 1991, Gilliam built his reputation as a successful director with \u2018\u2019The Fisher King\u2019\u2019 starring Jeff Bridges, Robin Williams and Mercedes Ruehl, which received critical acclaim and performed well at the Oscars and Golden Globe Awards.<\/p>\n
Highly regarded as one of the greatest science fiction films ever made, \u2018\u201912 Monkeys\u2019\u2019 hit screens in 1996 with excellent performances from Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, who won a Golden Globe Award and Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.<\/p>\n
Gilliam gained further acclaim with the literary adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson\u2019s eponymous \u2018\u2019Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas\u2019\u2019 (1998), which Gilliam co-wrote and directed.<\/p>\n
With Gilliam\u2019s unique directorial vision and great performances from Johnny Depp and Benico del Toro, the film became a famed cult classic.<\/p>\n
Gilliam\u2019s next film whisked audiences away on a fantastical adventure in \u2018\u2019The Brothers Grimm\u2019\u2019 (2005) starring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger.<\/p>\n
Returning to independent filmmaking, Gilliam directed and co-wrote \u2018\u2019Tideland\u2019\u2019 (2005) before delivering the nonintoxicating imaginative \u2018\u2019The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus\u2019\u2019 (2009), re-confirming Gilliam\u2019s status as a conjurer of cinema and featuring a final performance from the late, gifted Heath Ledger.<\/p>\n
Bursting with the filmmaker\u2019s trademark deep-focus detail, Gilliam directed \u2018\u2019The Zero Theorem\u2019\u2019 (2014), a spellbinding sci-fi epic featuring a captivating performance by two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz.<\/p>\n
Finally, after three decades, Gilliam\u2019s long-dreamed-of project, adventure-comedy \u2018\u2019The Man Who Killed Don Quixote\u2019\u2019, came to light.<\/p>\n
Gilliam also co-wrote the project with Tony Grisoni, which stars Adam Driver and Jonathan Pryce.<\/p>\n
