Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Sunday US Senator Ron Wyden in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and Head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Abbass Kamel. <\/p>\n
President Sisi highlighted the strategic relation between Egypt and the United States that has extended for decades, stressing Egypt\u2019s keenness to boost bilateral ties on all fronts, especially amid the disturbed situation in the region and the escalating challenges of instability and terrorism. <\/p>\n
\u201cPresident Sisi is keen to contact all Congress\u2019 leaders within the framework of mutual cooperation and consultation between the two countries. Sisi reviewed Egypt\u2019s efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and underscored the country’s peerless trials to carry out comprehensive economic reform and sustainable development and settle disagreements and political conflicts in the region,\u201d presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady stated. <\/p>\n
For his part, Wyden said that Egypt is the pillar of security, stability, and peace in the Middle East, as well as being a strategic partner to the US in the region. <\/p>\n
Wyden further lauded Egypt\u2019s successful role in sustaining peacekeeping forces, combating terrorism, renewing religious discourse and stressing the code of ethics. <\/p>\n
During the meeting, the officials discussed the situation in Libya and Syria, asserting the necessity to find political solutions to these conflicts in a way to conserve the unity and sovereignty of these countries. <\/p>\n
President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full support for the Palestinian stance to reach a political settlement, highlighting the need to reach a just and comprehensive solution leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital. <\/p>\n
