Desperate attempt for the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group to demonstrate near the Human Rights Council (UNHRC) headquarters in Geneva, Friday, ended with great failure, as only few number of the outlawed members showed up. <\/p>\n
MB called for the demonstration on conjunction with the 40th session of UNHRC which kicked off in Geneva, Feb. 27. <\/p>\n
The demonstrations aimed at distorting the political and social scene in Egypt along with demanding the return of former president Mohamed Morsi to office again. Morsi, is currently facing several trials for accusations of damaging and setting fire to prison buildings, murder and attempted murder, and looting prison weapons depots while allowing prisoners from the Hamas, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, jihadists, and other criminals to break out of jails. <\/p>\n
It was reported that MB tried to attract mercenaries to partake in the demonstration, offering 200 Swiss Franc (CHF) to each one of them; however, MB still failed in gathering demonstrators. <\/p>\n
On March 5, human rights delegation comprised of two Egyptian NGOs headed to Geneva to participate in \u200ethe 40th session of the Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Members of the delegation included Saed Abdel Hafez, representing the Forum for \u200eDevelopment and Human Rights Dialogue (Moltaka) and Aida Nour, from the Women and Development \u200eAssociation. <\/p>\n
“Egyptian NGOs participation in international meetings and events, including the UNHRC annual \u200esessions, is very vital to clarify facts to public international opinion regarding the situation in Egypt,\u201d said \u200eAbdel Hafez who further explained that public discussion of human rights violations and countering \u200eterrorism is among the top priority issues for Egypt during all international high level meetings. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe \u200ehuman rights topic has been politicized by a number of terrorist groups including the Muslin Brotherhood \u200eto justify their terror acts and violence against civilians in the Middle East,\u201d he added. \u201cOur delegation to \u200ethe Human Rights Council 40the session will meet with high level representatives of diplomatic missions \u200eand European human rights activists to expose terrorists groups\u2019 lies.\u201d\u200e <\/p>\n
During the Seminar that was conducted March 7, on the sideline of UNHRC meeting, the activists discussed the absence of democracy and freedoms in Qatar. The activists noted that Qatar’s political process has stopped since 2008, as no elections for municipal councils for example was held since then. <\/p>\n
