According to the Cyber crime law, a hacker of e-mails or personal accounts shall be punished by not less than one month in prison and a fine of not less than LE 50,000 and not more than LE 100, 000. <\/p>\n
Law enforcement investigators and prosecutors are focusing on the Electronic Crimes law this period, especially after the hacking of personal accounts of some famous personalities such as the daughter of late prosecutor Hisham Barakat. <\/p>\n
Barakat’s son Mohammed Hisham Barakat said during a talk show on MBC Masr that his sister’s account had been hacked and that the statement on her Facebook page was not written by her and that it did not represent the views of the family. <\/p>\n
Also, according to article 303 of the Penal Code, the penalty of insult on social media is punished by a fine of LE 5-15,000, said lawyer Mohamed Ibrahim in February 2019. <\/p>\n
Ibrahim added that insulting someone or his\/ her religion, and insulting the president of the republic can be punished by imprisonment. <\/p>\n
\u201cOne can get a copy of the insulting post on social media then head to the internet police to pursue the legal process,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n
On May 29, the Egyptian authorities arrested a Lebanese citizen, Mona al-Mazbouh, over posting a video on her Facebook account talking about several situations that triggered her anger while spending her vacation in Cairo.<\/p>\n
