In a move revealed the ugly side of one of the most important news networks of America, and confirmed the extent of its permanent bias to Israel and its rejection of any expressions of support for the Palestinians, CNN on Thursday parted ways with contributor Marc Lamont Hill following a speech that the college professor gave on Israel and Palestine at the United Nations, Associated Press reported on Tuesday. <\/p>\n
Hill, a professor of media studies at Temple University who had been a recurring political commentator on CNN, called for countries to boycott Israel in the Wednesday speech given for the U.N.’s International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
\nThe network spokesman asserted that Hill is no longer under contract. CNN did not give a reason, but the move comes amid objections to Hill’s speech by the Anti-Defamation League and other groups. <\/p>\n
“We have an opportunity to not just offer solidarity in words but to commit to political action, grass-roots action, local action and international action that will give us what justice requires and that is a free Palestine from the river to the sea,” Hill stated in the speech. <\/p>\n
The ADL and others said the \u201criver to the sea\u201d phrase was code for the destruction of Israel, often used by Hamas and groups bent on its destruction. \u201cThose calling for \u2018from the river to the sea\u2019 are calling for an end to the state of Israel,\u201d the ADL\u2019s senior vice president for international affairs Sharon Nazarian said in a statement, adding that the annual event at the UN \u201cpromotes divisiveness and hate\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cMy reference to \u2018river to the sea\u2019 was not a call to destroy anything or anyone,\u201d Hill said on Twitter. \u201cIt was a call for justice, both in Israel and in the West Bank\/Gaza. The speech very clearly and specifically said those things. <\/p>\n
\u201cI support Palestinian freedom. I support Palestinian self-determination,\u201d Hill tweeted, adding: \u201cI do not support anti-Semitism, killing Jewish people, or any of the other things attributed to my speech. I have spent my life fighting these things.\u201d<\/p>\n
