15 November 2018: Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, Nabila Makram, expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the people and government of Kuwait, saying that she was moved by the support of the Kuwaiti writers and anchors. <\/p>\n
She said, in a phone-in on Wednesday evening to Wael al Abrashy’s program on ON E, that the recent crisis reflects the deeply-rooted relationship between Egypt and Kuwait. <\/p>\n
Furthermore, Makram stressed that she read a number of articles supporting her view of the crisis written by Kuwaiti journalists and writers. She added, \u201cI called them all to assure them that it was an individual case; we all know the history of Kuwait, and we all are one big family, one people.\u201d <\/p>\n
Moreover, Makram sent a voice message to all the Egyptians abroad urging them to keep silent, especially after the Kuwaiti parliamentarian’s statement. <\/p>\n
The crisis began when an Egyptian woman living in Kuwait recorded a video to complain about being assaulted by five people while she was having a walk with her husband and children. Subsequently, Egyptian Immigration Minister Nabila Makram defended the expat, saying that \u201cthe dignity of Egyptian citizens and Egyptian women in specific is a red line. However, we respect Kuwaiti authorities and judiciary.\u201d <\/p>\n
Makram\u2019s remarks seemingly angered Safaa al- Hashim, the only female member to be elected to the Kuwaiti Parliament. Hashim blamed Makram for speaking about dignity, saying that \u201cwe have been generous to those people you are talking about that some of them [started] to cross the red line [against] the Kuwaiti citizen.\u201d<\/p>\n
